Patti and Paul Livin' it Up with Sammy Hagar
We had a total blast. Being on stage as part of the show is just an amazing experience. We were #12&13 in line, so we ended up right behind the drummer center stage at the highest part of the riser....EXACTLY where we had hoped to be. They only allow about 50 people on stage. The riser is large enough that the first 17-18 people in line end up on the front railing. The others are in the 2 steps of risers. The people at the front of the line always want to be over near Vic, the guitar player, because that's where Sammy spends the most time interacting with the people on stage. But we wanted to be center stage behind the drummer so we could hang our banner from that spot. It ended up being a great place! We got Sammy to sign our banner (and his bass player, Mona signed it too). We had hoped Michael Anthony (from Van Halen) would sign it too. He acknowledged it and waved and pointed to his name on it, and seemed to indicate he'd come back to sign it, but he never did. Damn! Paul also got Sammy to sign his onstage pass. The drummer threw Paul a drumstick, but he missed grabbing it and it fell back to the stage. Michael Anthony threw us a bass pick, but the guy next to Paul got it intead! Oh well. Slowing down in his reflexes!
Anyway, the show was great. It is a totally different experience being part of it. We got to do the whole march through across and around the stage while they played Van Halen's Top of the World. That was a total blast! We got to basically meet and greet the whole band (except Sammy as he was the leader of our parade) as we walked/danced across the stage. Some of the people we met while waiting in line all day Friday and Saturday (were in the first row on the floor) took some pictures of us up on stage. I hope they get a chance to send them to us. It's funny because I have pictures of them I took from the stage.
I took pictures all night long. Some turned out real good. It was hard to take good pictures though. First of all by being on stage I was taking pics into the spot lights all evening. Second, everytime I'd get a great shot lined up, they'd turn around and face the audience again, so I'd end up with a blurred side shot. And third and most difficult was to keep the camera steady. The whole stage was rocking and it was impossible to get the camera still. But even with all the problems, I got some GREAT shots. I took about 160 pictures. About 50 of them look to be pretty good, and about 8 or 10 look GREAT! I haven't printed them up to see exactly how sharp they are, but on te LED screen they look good.
The concert, musically, was GREAT! He did 2 parts to the show. The first half was all Sammy Hagar music. He and his Waboritas band. After about a 5 minute break, they came back as a band called the "Other Half" That is in refernce to Sammy and Michael Anthony being the other half of Van Halen when you take out the Van Halen brothers. So for that part of the show, they did all Van Halen songs. It was great also! Show wasn't as long as we had hoped. Sammy indicated on teh radio that afterrnoon he was going to do a longer show because the one the night beofre had been cancelled. But he did a regular 2 1/2 hour show. That was certainly enough to satisfy us, but we were hoping for a 3 or 4 hour marathon performance!
Was it worth $200??? ABSOLUTELY! Would we do it again??? In a heartbeat!
