Mimi's Spring Break Cruise |
|
This was the "second annual spring girls cruise"!! My friends from work, her friend from South Carolina, my sister and I went. The four of us went for the first time together last April and decided to make it an annual spring event! We drove to Galveston last Friday and the ship (Grand Princess) sailed at 4pm Saturday. It is a beautiful ship and was full with ~2600 passengers. The only down side is there were lots of kids, mostly teenagers. My friend's friend from S.C. is a teacher so we have to go around her spring break which is always the week before Easter. It works out much better when Easter is in April! The first few days the sea was rather rough. The first night a lady fell and broke her hip badly and needed to be air lifted back to Houston. Because of the weather (thunderstorms) we had to turn back and go almost back to Houston for the helicopter to be able to hover and then drop a basket down to get her. Some people in cabins near where this took place had to evacuate their cabin at 5am. Thank heavens we weren't one of them! Because of the time lost, we then had 2 days at sea to make up time. Sunday we were already supposed to be at sea, but we were also at sea Monday and our stop at Belize was canceled. We were kind of bummed about that as it was the only port we hadn't been to. But, there's lots to do on the ship! There is a show every night varying from a musical production to comedy to magic, etc. We went to it every night after dinner. There were 2 formal nights where we got all dressed up. There are also several bars with all types of entertainment, all kinds of classes, etc. On Monday my sister and I both got a massage. It was heavenly! We also did a lot of sunning at the pool. Tuesday: in Costa Maya Mex. we did a "beach break" and it was very relaxing and fun. Wednesday: we were in Grand Cayman and we went on a city tour, to a Turtle Farm, to "Hell" which is a tourist village where you can send mail that is postmarked from Hell, and then swam with the Stingrays as well as feeding them. Thursday: we were in Cozumel. Since we swam with the Dolphins last year and I had done that on another cruise I went on, my sister and I decided to go horseback riding! We had so much fun. I can't even remember the last time I was on a horse! We were given instuctions on how to guide them and then went on a guided ride through some of the ruins. We really had a blast! Friday: was another day at sea and we docked and drove home Saturday. My sister and I had a balcony cabin and really enjoyed that. We did a lot, but we also made sure we made it a very relaxing cruise and that was wonderful! I have to go back to work Tuesday so that will be a reality shock!! We did put down a deposit on the next cruise while onboard! |
